I had some roses in a vase this week, cut from a bush in the back yard. Most of them had run their course and were starting to drop petals but there was one bud that hadn’t yet opened. When I went to throw out the overblown roses I noticed the water had evaporated and the vase was dry. I almost threw the bud out, as it had started to wilt, but decided it couldn’t hurt to refill the water and leave it in the vase.
Within three hours I came back to the vase and saw that the bud was in full bloom. All it had needed was the water that had been withheld and it was able to flourish.
And I thought, “Oh look, that’s me.”
